I haven't updated this thing in forever. Barely even remember it anymore. But Paul Gleason died, and I liked the man. So I had to say it.

Rest in peace, and thank you for your work.

Mood: scared

Halloween is here at last. Witches, goblins, big black cats.

Leave your answers and post the questions on your blogs with any additions or subtractions you want.

Any plans for Halloween this year?

Any favorite Halloween memories?

What was your best costume?

What's your favorite movie for Halloween?

What was the best spook house you went to?

What's your favorite mood music for Halloween?

What was the best haul you ever got from trick or treating?

What's your favorite spooky story? (Tell it or link to it if you have the time.)

Favorite costume for the opposite sex? (Or the more attractive sex, if that's a more applicable question.)

Who would you most like to find in your trick or treat bag?

What's your favorite Halloween party game?

What was your biggest scare on Halloween? (That scared you, I don't want to hear about your sadistic adventures. Well, o.k., but answer the other one, too.)

You may have heard about this, but it's worth noting for any who weren't aware.

Every single issue of the Fantastic Four, including annuals, from 1961 to December, 2004! For forty bucks! The Spider-Man Cd-Rom set released last year is getting a brand new restored DVD treatment, that's every issue of The Amazing Spider-Man from the beginning til a year or two ago. More titles to follow, including more Marvel comics and Mad Magazine!

Rockstar Games is making a game based on The Warriors! October 2005. Yep. Awesome.
http://www.rockstargames.com/thewarriors/ The gameplay doesn't really excite me, but I'll end up getting it. I know I will. And the cut scenes look great.

They called it "O-Hell". And then they tore it down.

It wasn't a bad dining hall, as dining halls go. I mean, yeah, the food stank, but that's the point. It's a dining hall. But once you got around that fact, it was my dining hall. Most of my meals during my first year of college came from O.Hill. I stole dozens of cookies from the place and took them back to my room. I used to plot ways to steal a gallon or so of their Hawaiian punch and take it home. Never really got around to it. I met some really amazing people in that shitty little dining hall. Had some good times. I just found out that they tore the place down yesterday. I actually feel some honest to goodness loss.

Dave, Steve, Curt, Jeff, Mike, Seuss, Rich. You guys were the best. And O.Hill was part of that. Godspeed, my friend.

Shamelessly stolen from Robson and Tilson. In case anyone's still actually reading this, I look forward to your response.

Who are you?
Are we friends?
If we've met, when and how did we meet?
What social event or place would you like to go to with me?
Would you kiss me?
Describe me in one word.
What was your first impression?
Do you still think that way about me now?
What reminds you of me?
If you could give me anything what would it be?
How well do you know me?
When's the last time you saw me?
Ever wanted to tell me something but couldn't?
Are you going to put this on your blog and see what I say about you?

Subject:New Dortmunder!
Security:Public

I'm amazed and thrilled to be able to report that there's a new Dortmunder novel out. Just released a week or so ago. I've no idea what it's about, but I'm so getting it. I was disappointed in Westlake's last effort and didn't expect another new Dortmunder for a couple years at least. I'm not even sure why I did it, but I just happened to pop over to Westlake's site to see what he had cooking and *blammo*! Westlake even says he makes it a point to write two novels between Dortmunder escapades, but says that this story wouldn't leave him alone. I'm really looking forward to it.

As a prelude, Atlanta Falcons' quarterback, Michael Vick, has been accused of giving a woman herpes after a night of freewheelin' whoopie. He apparently disguised himself with an alias during the encounter. He told her his name was Ron Mexico. Yep. Ron Mexico. Hee!

So, being the internet, someone created the Ron Mexico Ultimate Disguise Name Generator.

I am Alfred Soviet Union. I can't see how I can go wrong with that name. Chicks, you might as well give it up now. Alfred Soviet Union is in town.

I've run most of my friends through this. Have a go, won't you? Feel free to pass it on. Like herpes.

Subject:Kobra Revisited
Security:Public

I've started playing Kobra a little more, recently. Happened mostly by accident. Seems to be almost dead now. It went from a lively place with dozens of players at a time to a fairly active place with fifteen to twenty players to a ghostmud with only five players at a time, only two of them active.

I'm not sure why exactly that happened or if it'll pick up in the summer, but I've got mixed feelings. It's nice to have things largely to myself. It sucks to have less to choose from in the shops as far as armor and weapons go. It also just feels kind of empty. I'm afraid it's signalling the death knell, too. I won't be surprised if the plug gets pulled in a year or two.

I've been negligent with my e-mailing since I've started blogging/journaling. This is something I wanted to e-mail one of you, but I'm lazy and I figured several people would enjoy it. But for the one, you'll know who you are.

I wanted to write a blaxploitation tribute called MAGNIFICENT '77 where seven black crooks teamed up to assassinate a white police chief who treated his precinct as his own feudal kingdom; I think your idea is better than mine.

Over on The Blah, Blah Blog I talked of my thoughts on John Carpenter. I saw THE THING for the first time over the weekend. I highly enjoyed it. I thought the special effects were probably overdone. I can't help but think that the movie would have come closer to profitability, worked just as well artistically, and would have been just as well remembered by fans with less elaborate effects. I can't imagine where the budget went if not for the effects, although I expect the location shooting was pretty expensive. That probably could have been done elsewhere to cut costs tremendously. I mention it only because it ends up being such a small scale movie that it almost screamed for more of a ballsy climax or for a tighter budget. I do think the timing of the movie is a big factor in its failure at the box office, but the climax was, not weak, but weak in the context of the scope of the movie. As for the movie itself, Read more... )
